Administrative history / Biographical sketch
Ballena, passenger ferry. Built in 1892 by the Albion Iron Works Company of Victoria in 1892 and named the Joan. Sold to the Terminal Steam Navigation Company in 1914 and renamed the Ballena. Acquired by the Union Steamship Company in 1920 but burned at the Union dock in November of that year. Hull was acquired by the Vancouver Dredging and Salvage Company and turned into a barge, eventually forming part of the Britannia Beach breakwater.

File consists of archival material and ephemera related to the Ballena. This includes: photocopies of articles, typescripts and illustrations of both the Joan and the Ballena.
